Non-invasive Physical Examination for Chemical Storage Tanks
November 08, 2018
You can “check” the bottom of the tank that stores liquid hazardous chemicals without “opening the belly”. Changzhou Xindong Chemical Storage Tanks for the storage of liquid alkalis accepted this new type of inspection called “acoustic emission” on November 29, and more than 10 chemical companies were invited to observe.
In the past, the bottom of the tank was tested and the staff had to enter the inside of the tank. The enterprise must first carry out the canning treatment of the liquid hazardous chemicals in the tank, then clean and treat the residue, and then carry out the test after the detection of the safe conditions in the tank. This process can be as small as a week, as many as half a month or even 20 days.
At present, Xindong Chemical has a total of 8 hazardous Chemical Storage Tanks with capacities ranging from 500 cubic meters to 2000 cubic meters. Now using the "acoustic emission" test, it takes only 4 days to complete the "physical examination", and it does not affect the production of the enterprise at all.
According to the on-site inspection personnel, acoustic emission is a kind of elastic stress wave generated from the material due to the sudden release of strain energy. The crack, fracture, impact and friction of the material can be released. It can be used as a highly sensitive acoustic emission sensor. Received, and digital analysis by software, can understand the thickness of the bottom of the Chemical Storage Tanks, cracks, etc., and determine whether the bottom of the tank is corroded and leaked. The test results are divided into five levels. The A and B grades are very safe. The next test time can be 3 to 6 years. The C grade has certain problems. It needs to be processed immediately and can be combined with the actual situation; D and E The representative is in serious condition and must be opened for repair immediately.
At present, there are only two such acoustic emission detectors in the province.
